Business Leader Magazine provides awards hopefuls with an introduction to the Export and International Award – and why you should enter.

Entries to this year’s awards open on Friday 16th March and the independent judges will be looking for certain criteria.

The winner will have showcased significant and sustained international growth, along with a clear understanding of overseas markets within their sector.

The judges will also be looking for commercial success and how export has benefitted the company’s UK operation.

Exporting is a complex matter and so any entrants must also have demonstrated how they have overcome obstacles and grown their business.

According to the Department for International Trade (DIT), last year, the South West exported £15.3 billion worth of goods and the UK as a whole exported £324 billion.

However, following the recent high profile battles between International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox and counterparts at the Labour Party around post-Brexit trade deals – now, more than ever it is important to highlight the success that the region’s businesses have had exporting.

Currently, only 11% of UK businesses are frequently exporting and with the South West percentage of businesses lower than that – the entrants, shortlisted companies and eventual winner – will demonstrate that it is possible and encourage others to do more.

Business Leader recently covered an event in Bristol, hosted by DIT, where they demonstrated the ease in which you can make your first steps into exporting. The full article can be found here: https://www.businessleader.co.uk/dits-export-hub-truck-makes-bristol/39890/.
